🌹The pacing isn't terrible, they're clearly trying to have gradual, effective buildups, but it still feels a little rushed. This may be due to them sticking too close to the source material, when I think the atmosphere would benefit from more small scenes of daily life and scenary in the town.
🌹Similarly, they try to stick very close to the original page illustrations, which is welcome next to the previous adaptations. However, most do not add much to these nightmarish still images that couldn't be found in the original work.
This is how I felt as well, the way it dove straight into the surreality seemed very quick to me. I feel like what makes Junji Ito's work so great is how his horror turns the mundane and standard into the dreadful and otherworldly over time.
