I'm really enjoying The Penguin, but I can't fathom why the grade on it looks so flat and muddy. I'm assuming it's a creative decision, but it's a really bad one. And a complete disservice to some excellent writing, directing and acting.
As someone who was 18 in 2001, one of the most notable things for me is how the US (as viewed from the UK) became, for want of a better word, 'nastier' almost overnight. This analysis of what happened to the left feels like quite a helpful explanation for that change.
It's basically like a 5 year old rejecting Duplo because it's 'babyish'.
Lukewarm film take - the current trend of people loudly declaring how 'bad' marvel and star wars films are is down to the target audience - mostly guys under 25 - grew up with a steady stream of these things and are desperate to show their 'maturity' by rejecting them.
