my husband's insurance (Alabama teacher insurance) just flat out refused to cover my birth control pre-ACA unless I got an extra special "not doing it to be slutty" note from my doctor. I was in my early 20s and found it so humiliating that I went w/o my BC, leading to cysts on my ovaries! YAY!

I mean in my 40s I would have just made aggressive eye contact with them while passing over a note and saying "I might be slutting it up for all you know, but one of my ovarian cysts is named Blue Cross and another one is named Blue Shield, GIVE ME MY DRUGS" but I don't have to. Thanks, Obama!

Gawd I feel you on that. Right now I have a IUD but only because my OBGYN (a woman!!) refused to take my ovaries out even with my DR asking for it! "You'll want kids later! You'll change your mind!" Fucking hell. Why take off the ovaries? I have PCOS and I'm hemorrhagic when on my periods...

Pre ACA... my employer would cover Viagra but not birth control. Yeah... you read that right. The CEO had 6 kids. They were bought and the bullshit stopped. Then they covered both. Don't inconvenience a man... (/sarcasm)
