the fact that we had a "librarians protecting their community post-apocalypse" book drop in 2020 means I got to talk to a lot of librarians mid-covid, & the extent to which we just made libraries our disaster safety nets without giving them the budget, tools, or resources to safely handle that...

I find it striking how in the aftermath of Helene, libraries are providing crucial community services like free wifi while cops are guarding stores with rotting food from potential "looters" instead of serving and protecting people. Worth considering how we spend local funding.
