On this day 65 years ago (1959): the Chiswick Flyover opened. Soon to become part of the M4, this bridge between the two Circulars became part of one of Britain's most iconic urban motorways. It's also an excuse to share this image of the Brentford approach.

On this day 35 years ago (1989): Granada Swanwick opened. This unloved building by the A38 was supposed to be a grand hotel, but was thrown between numerous owners, and is now a large Burger King. motorwayservices.uk/Alfreton
