I feel like those stories catch on just because of how the community had been written off back in the 2000s, so seeing accomplishments feels empowering to be a part of it, but it certainly has been overbuilt to being a sort of standards to be met, which is unfortunate
Yeah there’s an inherent weird like.. classism, “gotta create value above the average person” vibe I always disliked there. Like ok, furries are also serving you coffee, delivering your food, driving your cheap garbage across the country. They’re struggling for rent, they’re being priced out, etc
But being just an artist is not enough apparently

Treating people as if working has value... People that say that don't have disabled friends... they work harder than I have to just to live...I respect the hell out of them, because I would be livid to have to do what they do for basic decency.
I get the sense that People voicing active support for the furry community are vocalizing accomplishments as a rational pushback against a narrative of contempt, not as an excuse for something they themselves deem otherwise unacceptable. Maybe I’m being generous.
Man I hate that shit, so many of us are poor and most are not involved in science and technology. Hell I'm a STEM furry and I'm still not anywhere near the prestigious work we're associated with. Just let people have hobbies, god damn
