yuuup. i think you can make a strong case the actual boomer-vintage of hippies (as opposed to like, "hippies" meaning anything to the left of barack obama to the DC people) were overall a reactionary movement.

Yeah, the similarity between their propaganda and that used to promote Lebensraum is impossible to un-see once you've seen it.
Primarily white, and primarily middle-class, it was probably inevitable.
My parents were New Left and always had contempt for the hippies.
I think this is generally true, but very much not my experience w/ the anarchist lesbians who raised me. They’ve remained dedicated activists into their 70s: peace, farmworker justice, and the environment. Some aunties trend anti-growth NIMBY or anti-vax, but no TERFs or capitalists.
Half of them became evangelicals
All movements are reactionary.
Speaking only for myself as an original hippie of the sex, drugs and rock & roll generation our message was about peace and love as opposed to war and hatred. We founded the Earth Day movement. We failed to bring about peace and love because we were vilified by the establishment. ☮️🕊️✌️
