The death penalty is wrong. A moral abomination and should be abolished. It would be wrong even if there were no chance of accidentally executing an innocent man. "The Death Penalty" is not really the word for killing a man you know to be innocent, that's just called "murder" and is even worse.
It’s worse than murder. It’s a lynching, with 100% of that word’s historical baggage.
In a perfect legal world I would be fine with a very small subset of crimes. Boston bomber, school shooter & Dylon roof types. We do not live in a perfect legal world though, and therefore it should go.
"The Democrats and the Republicans are the same on the death penalty" is a good nihilistic take but kind of fails to explain why the map of where the death penalty is practiced is almost identical to the map of where Republicans control the state government bsky.app/profile/bree...
Would this same line of argument forbid the state to declare war, except perhaps for direct defense of its citizens?
When I was a kid we still had the death penalty for rape. You can guess which group got the selective enforcement there..
Civilised nations abandoned it years ago
Capital Punishment presumes that your life is the property of the state. in this age, where the Libertarian Pose is so prevalent, it's utterly disgusting that we're still even arguing this issue.

It’s an odd hypothetical to say “no chance of an accident “ because that’s impossible. My take is: one person is one too many and the state is too imperfect to have that much power
