This would be a multi day story in a world where the political media didn't want Trump to win the election. Instead of asking "why did Trump's running mate call him a failure in 2020" they're sticking with the "Kamala, can you explain why was Trump's economy was so good?" frame
www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202... Feels like it should be a big multiday story that Vance considered Trump's presidency a failure as late as 2020
In previously undisclosed messages from 2020, JD Vance said Donald Trump had not fulfilled his agenda and predicted he would lose to Joe Biden.
A quick google search shows this story has more traction overseas than in the US. And this is what the NYT does with it:
". . .Vance’s 2020 assessment of Trump’s failure to deliver on his economic policies was not meant as a criticism of the former president, but of “establishment Republicans who thwarted much of Trump’s populist economic agenda to increase tariffs and boost domestic manufacturing in Congress.” 🤔
To say nothing of Trump's other running mate who he, you know, attempted to murder while he was committing treason but that one gets less front page real estate in 2024 than "what kind of fertility treatment did Tim Walz *really* have"
It's amazing but not surprising that the media never tried to make a story out of Vance shape-shifting from anti-Trump to Trump-is-my-Daddy. If Walz had basically called Harris the anti-christ four years ago I'm pretty sure we'd never stop hearing about it.
No, the voters want to hear about the issues. Like stories from Tim Walz’s Florida man, Republican brother about Tim’s scandalous childhood carsickness
