I do not want to say you cannot say you are on the left if you oppose *any* labor action (e.g. cops doing unannounced work slowdowns are bad) but you gotta have a better reason than "management says these jobs arent necessary anymore and these guys are already paid a lot!"

Nah, this is bullshit - you can be both pro-worker and oppose counter-productive worker demands like "you can't introduce any automation improvements whatsoever". Rotterdam is a good example of what our ports should be but aren't, and it's not like a lot of people don't work there for good pay

If a union sets up a picket line in front of an emergency room door, they're assholes. If a union strikes to obtain benefit X, which will decrease the employers' profit by more than X but not by remotely enough to endanger the employers' solvency, they are ~doing their job correctly~.

Reagan era anti union propaganda is so pernicious

Rarely any good reason to have strong negative opinions about, say, a bus driver's strike in a city you don't live even if they are demanding 7 figures and a 12 hour work week

I support their strike for better pay, but they should be negotiating to get a cut of the profits that a move to automation brings, not to stop progress that brings efficiency and is responsible for economic growth and prosperity. That’s a path to long term stagnation.
