Very true. Also, it’s humiliating to acknowledge (often even to oneself) that one’s being scammed. So victims stay enmeshed, and the scam continues (sunk cost fallacy is big here), and they often don’t report anything to the authorities. So they’re stuck in impotent rage.

And everything wrong in their lives is the fault of liberals/minorities/lbgtq+/etc.,

And I theorize many men in their 30s & 40s who became far-right incel influencers only did so because they wasted their formative years (teens into late 20s) doing nothing but “winning” fake achievements in gaming.

It would be nice to live in a society that doesn't dangle "get rich quick" schemes and opportunities everywhere you look. I've often thought it's in the American DNA. Who migrated here? Desperate people looking for opportunity. And people who saw opportunity in scamming the desperate.

I feel like Kamala has a real bipartisan opportunity to be like "I'm Kamala the cop and I'm gonna fuck up the guys that scammed your elderly relative"

So they vote Trump, the biggest grift of all.

Or worse, graduate school.

That’s so interesting a point! Older men and younger men are both vulnerable to this and the grifters are incredibly savvy and tailor to each demographics vulnerabilities I had never thought of this but I bet you have hit on a super important dynamic It explains the aggrieved victim mentality
