Can you copy paste just the text to another clean document or would that mess up other important stuff? Anyways, good if you already found some sort of solution.

I tried the "copy into Notepad, then back again" trick; unfortunately, I noticed that this seemed to change the layout of the original document, possibly in ways the authors would not like or which might change its meaning - all of which had the potential to make things worse, not better
