Obviously it's a TV show and you're free to interpret it however you like, I just think that I see the original intent of the creator as being that we think Angel is a very sexual person who once liked the idea of being in porn but hates the reality of it which has always involved control.
IMO the show wants us to view all of it as an act, because as soon as Husk confronts Angel he no longer talks about being proud of his work or liking it. We also get the context that Angel signed the contract to start working in porn - there's no time he did it outside of Val's control.
