I just realized that Bowser's Fury is the first fully-fledged 3D Mario games with fully incorporated camera controls (disqualifying Super 3D Land and World) that incorporate traditional powerups and a run button. 64 just let you punch, which feels violent now. Galaxy let you twirl, which is lovely.
Even then, punching in Super Mario 64, shooting water in Sunshine, or spinning (correcting the previous flutter flubber) in the Galaxy series, wasn't followed up with running. Nintendo thought that a Control Stick tilted all the way is enough, but having played Bowser's Fury, it's so much better.
