This study leverages the human T2T-CHM13 genome to identify thousands of recent gene duplications, many previously overlooked due to errors in assemblies. We found 218 human duplicated gene families possibly functioning in the brain using genomic and transcriptomic datasets. /2

The gene list includes well-characterized genes (SRGAP2C and ARHGAP11B) and some never reported. We nominate ~70 gene families that can be readily tested in mice and zebrafish, existing as a single ortholog and exhibiting brain expression across species. /3
