I don't get what's even supposed to be scandalous about a court subpoenaing IP addresses to find out who was involved in a coup attempt.

IP addresses are notoriously unreliable by themselves. There's also a lot of debate whether they are used in a proper, legal manner and just not an excuse to go on a witch hunt.
