I personally don't buy the gift claim (in no small part because it means trusting Kadyrov). Seems much more likely that he just bought them through intermediaries. I don't rule out that it was a gift, though.

OTOH, everybody knows they're remotely controled, and selling-on is verboten by purchase contract ..? (Maybe the Chechens tried to hack the cursed thing 🤷)
