this is INSANE, so "breakthroughs" in Parkinsons and Alzheimers were all fake data doctored by this one guy to pad his resume, do we actually have any research into this stuff or have we just been paying billions and chasing his stick figures all century long??
Incentives for fraud across the bench and social sciences are pretty large, and in some cases huge. In most of the social sciences, the stakes are “merely” individual career success and lucrative airport-book bullshit. Elsewhere, though, it’s real funding, real money, and real suffering.

With regard to fraud in scientific papers and grant applications, the practice is WAY more prevalent than the public realizes, and the people responsible do not face serious enough consequences from either their institutions or the journals who publish their nonsense.
Fully expressing my anger about this, especially as I have elderly parents and one of them suffers dementia, would probably get me kicked off the platform
