lost count of how many naturalised citizens I have talked to who say a version of "I consider myself conservative but the conservatives in this country are racist against me so I'm voting against them" like if the GOP was a normal non racist party they'd literally never lose an election again smdh
The funny thing is that in any other country, the mainline Dems would be the conservatives.
people don't understand how intimately tied together fiscal conservatism is to racism and xenophobia. Easier to take away somebody's healthcare and education if you tell them it's to keep away those scary people with their spicy food
I call it the "Edgar" GOP, or egop, in honor of the cockroach from MiB and its Edgar suit.
I would like them to actually defend their position on being “conservative” from an economic and public policy perspective that doesnt get mired in vibes of religious values Strip away the racism and youve still got a lot of fascist adjacent ideals and “othering”
The current GOP is a very abnormal conservative party. As a comparison, In many ways they're more extreme than the most right-wing Swedish party.
Really black and Latino voters should be an easy pickup for Republicans if they weren't so obsessed with racism. They're voters who tend to be quite a lot more Christian/conservative than white Democratic voters. In the Republican party racism is the whole ballgame
The position most republicans hold, that Puerto Rico can never be granted statehood because it would mean two extra democrats in the senate forever, is wild to me. The outright admission that they’d rather be racist than win is fascinating.
I suspect in the not too remote future the GOP will either pivot completely or go the way of the Whigs—with a new conservative party led by Asian, Hispanic and Black conservatives. The Dems would then have to some soul searching and get their act together.
im skeptical that a "normal non-racist" GOP can win without gerrymandering
In this country the conservatives always go hand in hand with the racists. You can't separate them.
