The most common recommendation I make to students interested in healthcare (med school, nursing, radtech, etc.) is take more Alaska Native study (ANS) courses. Understanding the populations they'll work with is more important than an extra science course.
I just loved Ylva Jannok Nutti’s paper about traditional measuring as integrated part of Sámi handcrafters as well as reindeer herders' mathematical thinking and reasoning. Indigenous Sámi math that is not used among other groups. Indigenous studies could definitely give valuable additions to STEM.
