Plus think of the ages of users at home, their dexterity, vision etc. This must be part of vital infrastructure and not something just left in the hands of a profit hungry corporation. What % of BT is British these days?

Signs a photography account is *potentially* a content thief: 1. No person/brand name. Photography is expensive. Not many people can afford to do it without monetization. 2. Posting widely varied subject matter. A landscape specialist is unlikely to have the gear to snap bugs. Not in this economy.

1. A fortnight ago, I wrote about the scandal of our Internal Drainage Boards, which are supposed to stop flooding, but are unaccountable, self-serving, feudal bodies that do more harm than good. Now a disturbing email has landed in my inbox. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre... 🧵

A network of public bodies are supposed to safeguard us from flooding. But, like old boys’ clubs, they are bastions of self-interest, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

We know the drivers of research waste in academia are ⚠️Pressure to maximize papers and PhD students ⚠️Endless demands on time due to poor management ⚠️Stakeholders don't insist on robust quality systems to underpin mission critical work Solutions that don't address these are pointless.

Nobody's talking about the R&D tax relief scandal. But we should be - because it could have cost the UK £10bn. https://taxpolicy.org.uk/2024/09/30/the-uk-has-lost-up-to-10bn-in-the-rd-tax-relief-scandal-how-did-hmrc-and-the-treasury-miss-it/

Yes, aiui BT dumped all this work on local authorities. Separately but perhaps relatedly: BT have also been heavily criticized in the past year for a major incident with 999 that included a total failure of the relay service used by d/Deaf people. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Butterfly numbers are crashing: one of a vast multitude of flashing red lights warning of the death of the natural world all around us. But we CAN reverse this, by banning pesticides and initiating mass rewilding. Less talk, more action. 🌏 www.theguardian.com/environment/...
