It’s not. There was an anti-corset crusade based on junk science and medical quackery whose ludicrous claims about corsets crushing organs get cited to this day. Corsets were the bras of their day, that’s all. Like bras, some worked better & some were harmful & mostly they were just underwear.
Unlike excessively large hoop skirts or giant side panniers. Those were legit dangerous. Apparently having multiple layers of fabric held out from the body for maximum airflow and minimum controllability is not a great idea, and doesn't combine well with open flames.
There are number of historical clothing makers & costumers on YouTube talking about how 'kill you' corsets are misunderstanding & mostly a modern thing. Including one that sings in hers.

I’ve been making and wearing period-appropriate corsets for 30 years. Corsets require care and training but they will not kill you any more than high heels or fake nails will.
