Every time I read articles about extremely wealthy people/companies engaging in unethical behavior to become even more wealthy, I think about this excerpt from the book the psychology of money. The endless quest for more is so damaging, especially when pursed by those who already have enough.
I look at someone like Luckey Palmer & it's not what he has, but what society allows him to get up to that makes me feel like I might never have enough. I don't have the leverage to try cool great good things.
When I was a kid, there was a TV western titled "Maverick". James Garner played the lead as a trickster in his loveable, roguish persona a la Rockford, gambling across the west. He had an aphorism, intended to cause a grin "The money is just for keeping score." These days, I find it less amusing.
I have long advocated for the result of amassing a fortune to be immediate confiscation of everything over a certain amount and the winner of capitalism to be given a nice plaque that can polish and be proud of instead.
Billionaires funding Trump are obvious bigots too.
Though money may make life easier and help most average people achieve higher levels of happiness, it will never buy the things we need to feel whole & for those w/immense greed, there is no version in which “enough” actually exists. Also, Vonnegut is my favorite author. ❤️
It’s the American way it was that way in 1794 when Talleyrand came to a America 🇺🇸 to live saying America was all about making money 💰 so nothing has changed
Damn heller was smart. I have seen people in my life reach a certain level of rich only to realize that 'wealth' is whole different thing and once there, they are suddenly in touch, but not a part of, a entirely new level of wealthly. Another field is always in the distance.
We are being controlled* by Billionaires NOT for our benifit...and this needs to be changed.
