A surefire way to help your fellow artist is to share their work!! Especially if you love them. Likes are good and always appreciated, but sharing our work is exponentially more helpful. So don't be stingy with retweets/shares!

if anybody wants to take this opportunity to share the work of this small no-name indie game dev/artist/musician I'll be happy to return the favour to my admittedly tiny audience

I get being proud of one’s own creation, but the whole point of posting online is so other people can see and appreciate it too. It is nerve wracking and vulnerable so lack of engagement reinforces the fear. If I didn’t care about sharing a piece, I wouldn’t post it.

Thank you for saying this. I see a lot of artists say “don’t pay attention to likes. It doesn’t matter at the end of the day because you made art” meanwhile, they have a large following and get hundreds of likes every time they post. I’m lucky if I get 25 likes on insta on a good day.

When I first started posting art on Twitter, a big artist retweeted one of my work and it got me hundreds of new followers overnight. It was a long time ago, but I will always thank them for that one gesture of kindness.
