"Valid" feels a lot like when someone says "sure," i.e. they don't sound sure, so using "valid" often feels actually invalidating. It's the progressive circles equivalent to when your parents tell you, "That's interesting," or, "We'll see." All it does is fill space.

I think people enjoy 'validity' because telling someone they're 'valid' costs nothing and is significantly easier and more convenient than actually supporting them or fighting for their rights. It's performative in the original sense--professing one's support without having to do anything else.

Before the blog went live, I read ALMOST all of the most successful and acclaimed novels by transfemmes. But there’s one glaring outlier missing from my repertoire. I’ve been procrastinating on it since literally 2022, but not anymore. That book is Manhunt by @scumbelievable.bsky.social 👀

"A razor-sharp novel."
Meg Elison
GRETCHEN
FELKER-MARTIN
"Fun as hell." Torrey Peters
"Brilliant,"
Gabino Iglesias
MANHUNT
THE END OF THE WORLD IS NUTS.
"A modern horror masterpiece."
Carmen Maria Machado

The next post I'm sharing is on how the accusation of "male anger" against transfems & trans women in feminist spaces is nothing but transmisogyny, consistent with how past feminisms excluded marginalized women (e.g. racialized, queer, & intersex). After months of research and painstakingly connecting the threads of transmisogyny theory, queer activism, and field-wide epistemic injustice, I would like to present "The Third Sex": my treatise on a third-world transfeminism. Read: tinyurl.com/59kzm98k

A desi woman at a protest, framed by rainbow flags and wearing a red saree, holds up a sign that says "Hijras Are Women".

It is the cover image for Talia Bhatt's essay "The Third Sex", subtitled: "'The Gender Binary' is a misnomer; gender has always been a hierarchy."

I came across an outdated guide on image grid sizing crop/proportions for bsky earlier, and I felt it was important to create an updated version! Please use this new guide instead!

Up-to-date BlueSky Crop Aspect Ratio
Crop Sizes for Bluesky as of 18 Oct 2024

By default, single images are uncropped. If image is too tall (Exceeds the 1:2 aspect ratio) then it will be cropped. Single images that are too tall may be scaled down but aspect ratio is preserved

With two images, both of them share a square aspect ratio of 1:1

For three images, the first image is square (1:1) while the other two are half-squares (2:1)

And for 4 images, all of them are 3:2

The "trans athlete debate" is not really about sports or fairness, but about getting a legal precedent deeming trans women to be men under the law that can be extended to other areas of our lives.

On top of that, the Brown ad’s uncritical use of the language “transgender biological men” in “women’s sports” suggests an acceptance of the premise that trans girls are not girls. It may seem like a sensible political strategy, given how radioactive the polling is about trans athletes; but characterizing trans girls as boys in a sports context would lead one to characterize them as such in other contexts, too.

After all, if trans girls are really boys when they’re playing sports, then they would also be considered boys in the bathroom, boys in medical offices and, thus, denied access to female hormones. If trans girls are boys when they’re playing sports, then trans women should be considered men in all contexts.

Contrary to the assertion from conservatives that their aim is to protect the integrity of sports competition, their focus on the trans athlete issue has never really been about fairness. The goal has been to establish a precedent that leads to the complete marginalization of trans women and girls.

I'll try to share one daily until this account stops looking like a ghost town. Stay tuned :3
