Yup. It is totally awful.
Younger readers need indexes, but they need good examples to help them learn how to use them and why they might need to use them.
Have a good time. The book is supa doopa.
Words matter. Your trained, experienced, interested human indexer will know this kind of thing without recourse to dictionaries.

Busy couple of days with the Society of Indexers conference, online bringing people together from Australia, UK, Europe, US and Canada. Also been out to a talk by the estimable Simon Thurley at the Queen's Chapel, St James's Palace, the interior which we cannot share on social media.
