Former bio major here. Still feel like too few people know about the volcano snail, which is endangered due to deep sea mining in the Indian Ridge. Here are a few facts: ‣ It lives near hydrothermal vents which reach over 700 degrees. ‣ Their shells are made of iron sulfides.

What an amazing creature 🥰

Hydrothermal vent animals are my jam, literally a big part of my thesis (though I'm more of a tube worm person because I'm Basic like that)

‣ They're hermaphrodites, and can breed with themselves. ‣ Also scientists aren't sure what they eat, but they think they absorb nutrients from potentially toxic mixes that are emitted from the vents around its habitats. ‣ They're also known as sea pangolins.
