Anyone who's ever had a long layover knows the ultimate liminal space is the abandoned airport terminal
Congrats on getting layovered.
Well, how lovely! Nice mask btw
Changing Planes by Ursula K. Le Guin...The conceit of the story collection: that the low-level discomfort of forced occupation of an airport while changing planes can, in fact, cause one to change from one "plane" of reality to another.
You know what would make it feel more like home? A Goovis.
My worst layover was overnight in Tahiti. The airport shut down. I had to sit outside. The cops made sure to tell me to sit on one of the uncomfortable metal benches under one of the cameras, because I was less likely to be mugged if I did.
I had a super long layover in Winnipeg and five mins before gate open there was NOBODY around. I was panicking thinking my gate changed but turns out basically the entire flight was on an incoming flight that was delayed.
