When my kids were still in elementary, these were ESSENTIAL books every night at home in October. We had a similar tradition with Christmas books. I feel like required reading at school killed their love for books. We used to read hours each week! Maybe books got boring without pictures.

_The Hallo-Wiener_ by Dav Pilkey The cover shows a silly little daschund atop a hot dog with a gathering of other dogs of varying breeds laughing and pointing at him.
_Where’s My Mummy?_ by Carolyn Crimi and Illustrated by John Manders A juvenile mummy monster stands between two large tree trunks with a creepy, misty background behind him posing the titular question.
_Ms. Broomstick’s School for Witches_ by Jana Dillon and Illustrated by Rebecca McKillip Thornburgh In what appears to be an old castle, an adult witch instructs a class of five young witches. The teacher has a wand in hand producing whispy magic effects. Most of the girls are attentive while one redhead in the back of the class seems distracted and looks toward thr viewer. A cauldron filled with dancing worms and some green glowing effect is between teacher and class. An old, bat, and toad are also apparent in the classroom.
_Happy Halloween_ a Max and Ruby story as seen on Nick Jr. This book is mostly a reprint of stills and narration from the tv episode but Max and Ruby are originally by Rosemary Wells. In the image, both young bunnies are in costume. Ruby, the older suy, wears a pink princess dress and a crown. Max, the younger brother, wears bloody fangs and a vampire cloak over his signature overalls. They stand in a living room decorated with spider webs, a Jack o Lantern and Halloween balloons. Ruby seems to be reasoning with Max while Max has his arms over his head attempting to spook his sister.

Others in rotation, ESPECIALLY _In a Dark Dark Room_ Voices were essential in these books XD unfortunately, I was often sick in October and it was torture (my own fault lol!)

_Dragon’s Halloween_ by Dave Pilky The over of this book has a big, blue cartoon dragon walking accompanied by a clowder of cats. A full moon textured with swirlies frames Dragon’s head. Two barr, slender trees frame the entire scene.
