I've been backspacing a reply but fuck it. This is why there are private writing groups that target a predominantly American KU readership who actively discourage new writers from improving writing skills and instead improve your marketing skills b/c "They can't tell the difference anyway."
Recently, I tweeted about how in 90s/00s it was common to be assigned a book to read in 1 or 2 weeks. Many younger people replied they'd NEVER been assigned that much reading even while getting graduate degrees. Others said they hadn't been assigned entire books AT ALL in h.s....only excerpts.
To read a book in college, it helps to have read a book in high school.
Not to mention the number of evil lairs that just aren't up to OSHA standards. So many walkways with no guardrails running over glowing green vats. You ever try to claim worker's comp for getting dunked in mysterious goo? Insurance will claim anything was a preexisting condition and deny coverage!
I mean... do you really want to put your life on the line for a guy who'd rather get himself a second vacation lair than get you a decent health plan? Hell, no. Being a henchman used to be a functional apprenticeship before you could start a crime syndicate of your own, but not these days!
Evil overlords keep saying "Nobody wants to be a goon anymore," but really they're just not offering livable wages and they're just increasing workloads on remaining employees as goons quit. Can't spray-and-pray into a swarm of goons if they're down to just one or two guys trying to make ends meet.
