i think the problem with this messaging might click for more people if it was about, e.g., reproductive rights. would Dems ever use “Donald Trump criticizes Kamala’s progressive views on abortion, but he embraced reproductive freedom while in office” as a gotcha? of course not.
I would agree with this critique of the messaging if the attack which the messaging is confronting were an actual policy argument. But what Trump and the GOP are actually doing is just trolling, so clowning on them rather than engaging is fine by me
I think this is also abstracted beyond the realities of policy. The provision of gender affirming surgery was a series of supreme court cases around the 8th amendment and Estelle v Gamble. The executive branch was only involved indirectly.
