Hot take alert: I think it’s tacky when White folk self flagellate over being white. I don’t feel better seeing them say that. Like if you want to strive to be a better ally, accomplice, or whatever? Just be a good person. Call out your peers when they act racist. Supper BIPOC mutual aid.

As a white person who used to do this, I can wholeheartedly agree. It just pushes away the BIPOC in your life and you gain nothing besides mental "I'm not racist" brownie points. So glad I left that mindset in the past and moved on to non-performative forms of activism 😮‍💨

Hell is other white people who think they're anti-racist because they spend all their time telling me I'm racist for not spending all my time talking about what a goo (or worse, bad) white person I am. I think it's almost a kink for some of them.

I’m honestly refreshed to see this take. I oftentimes jokingly say as a cisgender white male people see me as the devil and the only reason I get a pass is cuz I’m gay. 😛 But yeah. All I can do is try my best to be part of the solution rather than the problem.

Like, they need to focus on and accept the fact there’s a noodle fulla shit the system whiteness built puts in them and move on when that shit flies out their mouths before they think first. Lord knows I challenge that every time it flicks across my brain like intrusive thoughts.

All that same time and space could be spent building bridges and community instead. Like we all know the past can't be changed, so what are we going to do to build a better future?

I wonder if some of that comes from like, casual white self-deprecation still being rooted in some form of racism? Like, usually it's because there's some form of racial stereotype going on that they're banking on. Like food seasoning, athletic performance, dancing ability, etc.

I've seen this from well-meaning people and it's extremely frustrating to deal with
