Pure personal expression: German pride is currently deeply hurt, the 'nothing works here' anymore low morale makes this another symbolic blow to German imagined economic superiority, not least towards Italy.

As a foreign policy resolution, this vote is non-binding - but that makes it even more politically symbolic, as the EPP willingly chooses to accept support of the far-right in an area where it could have just waited or voted differently.

Kubilius 🇱🇹 for Defence and Space Commissioner is an interesting choice. I wonder whether taking someone from a country with neither significant space or defence industry is an asset (less partial towards one industry) or a weakness. Will be difficult to make this post matter either way.

An interesting sign on how different candidates from far-right parties are treated - Meloni's candidate from the more moderate ECR gets an important vice Presidency role, Orbàn's candidate gets ... health and animal welfare. Let's just hope the EU does not get hit by another pandemic.
