Donald Trump is ineligible to hold office again, the Colorado Supreme Court ruled, disqualifying him from the state’s primary ballot. The decision is likely to put the basic contours of the 2024 presidential election in the hands of the U.S. Supreme Court. www.nytimes.com/2023/12/19/u...
This is such a powerful opinion, and I’m hopeful this terrible Supreme Court will uphold it. The Republicans on the court know that if they do, it will give them political cover to continue to dismantle so many of the constitutional protections they’ve fought to eviscerate for years.
I hope.
I expect this ends with a Supreme Court ruling with a rationale along the lines of “the insurrection clause only applies to people who pledged allegiance to the Confederate States of America between 1861 and 1865.”
No worries. GOP billionaires bought the Supreme Court, and it's still under warranty.
Finally the elephant in the room is being addressed by the courts. Trump is an insurrectionist and a criminal and his re-election bid needs to be shut down.
Christmas came early I guess.
I'm waiting for the follow up from TFNYT which explains how this is bad for the Democrats.
