Same tool but I focused on modern 🌊 chemistry as a post doc after getting my PhD in (mostly) paleo 🌊. They’re different communities which meant a bit of starting over, which was fun! But I’m pretty sure it hurt my career. For example, colleagues said things like “I don’t know what he does“
As someone who also branched from paleo into modern (and is doing both now), I can definitely relate to the "I don't know what he does". But do you think this made you a more holistic and better scientist? (and to hell with the naysayers... <inserted 15min rant here>)
I’ve heard this described as snorkeling versus SCUBA diving in disciplines. I would say I am more of a free diver 🤣. I thought it might not be a good career move but it was so much more fun for me.
