It is… we’ve been subjected to 8+ years of narcissistic abuse from a former president who is running again. And we’ve been victims of massive propaganda/misinformation campaigns from Russia and China with the help of far-right evangelical Christians ….so yeah, we are all beleaguered.

Personally, I’d rather skip the flag and just pledge alliance to the actual Constitution and democracy.

The flag is currently 🇺🇸 but it can be changed by a democratic majority.

If you pledge alliance to a set of principles based on liberty, justice, freedom and logic, then you don’t “give up one’s own ideas about right and wrong” because you are included in decisions through democracy and majority rule (with basic equal protections for all).

Hhmmm…. yes, if you’re pledging alliance to a person, but no if you’re pledging to a set of principles based on freedom, logic, facts and reason. If you pledge to a person then you are a loyalist and “give up one’s own ideas about right and wrong” in exchange for “whatever he says”.
