An old meme format from the show 'American Chopper,' where a father (Senior) and a son (Junior) argue in 5 panels: Senior: Stop calling yourself trash Junior: Calm down it's just a joke Senior: First off all jokes are supposed to be funny and seeing you insult yourself upsets your friends, it doesn't make them laugh. Plus it makes you subconsciously internalize negative thoughts about yourself which is detrimental to your self esteem Junior: But I am trash and I'm stupid and ugly :( Senior: You are beautiful and I love you and don't you dare let me hear you say that about yourself again that is my friend you are talking about

so like when a patient i work with comes in & is like “i’m such a fuck up” etc for normal slips, i reply w/ “you know i disagree with you,” remind them we’re not kicking our own asses today, then i ask them to share something they like about themselves & any positive changes to celebrate.
