I meet too many students whose sole goal for a PhD is prestige. That is rarely a strong enough motivator for the long slog and sacrifices of grad school.
I’m speaking directly to the graduate students today. Take a minute before you apply to graduate school to think — really deeply think — about what a graduate degree is, what it takes to get one, what it means to have one, and whether or not you actually need one for your future career goals.
Daughter came home with all A’s and a B in math on the first report card. Am I a failing Asian mom? We even celebrated her report card with conveyer belt sushi for dinner! 😂
This is not “self defense.”
Israeli military bulldozers tore up miles of streets and alleys in two West Bank towns, destroying infrastructure and businesses, with sewage seeping into the dusty ruts left behind, videos show. The videos also show emergency responders being impeded.
Videos from Tulkarm and Jenin show bulldozers destroying infrastructure and businesses, as well as soldiers impeding local emergency responders.
Thx Leslie Wang for having me on the podcast! I’m still pretty clueless when it comes to book publishing without an agent. But seeing the book in the wild at my local public library and bookstores has been so cool! yourwordsunleashed.com/ep-64-publis...

What I learned today while writing: It's dribs and drabs, not drips and drabs.🤷🏽♀️
I wish this didn't have to be said, but here you go.
I think the mixed outcomes on Asian Americans align with (1) the research Carnevale/Georgetown did predicting that increases in Asians would be really marginal, and (2) organizational research on admissions system norms
things are still inconclusive, and I don’t want to give more power to SFFA than they deserve, but using rough margins of error, the changes at MIT are not natural variation. The Latino numbers at Yale are also interesting esp since they’ve been doing lots of work with Latino communities
I’ve been in a deep “told you so!” vibe since Yale & Princeton’s admissions outcomes came out. AsianAm numbers declined, white numbers up at most elitist colleges, devastating declines in Black, Latino, & Indigenous students at many places, just as Blum wanted. It’s like I wrote a book about this!
