Can I just say there are some damn good speechwriters in this very large tent
George Washington shared some warnings as “a parting friend” in his farewell address and, in particular, called out political party factionalism and its power to elevate “cunning, ambitious, unprincipled men” and undermine democracy www.mountvernon.org/george-washi...
Washington’s Farewell Address, published at the end of his second term, stands today as a timeless warning about the forces that threaten American democracy.
Over the last 8 years, I have kept re-reading George Washington’s farewell address. It is particularly relevant and poignant today. He and Hamilton wrote it after relentless criticism from a hostile press of his administration and his age. www.mountvernon.org/george-washi...

Absolutely yes. Whenever I think about what the social internet has actually changed as a communication medium over previous revolutions in communications, it’s not actually “the algorithms.” It’s the participatory community-focused nature of platforms and what it replaces for people.
Something i think about often is how the participatory nature of the digital social internet has redirected the social political drive into a honeypot/tarpit where it doesn’t actually do anything than fuel far-right metapolitics
I also think some publications or media are legit subconsciously thirsty for Trump to get re-elected because it’ll be good for subscriptions or ratings.
God Bless Paul Davies and the @PhillyInquirer: "The only person who should withdraw from the race is Trump...There was only one person at the debate who does not deserve to be running for president. The sooner Trump exits the stage, the better off the country will be."
Biden had a horrible night Thursday. But the debate about the debate is misplaced. The only person who should withdraw from the race is Trump.
A smart player figures out how to play the hand they are given. As David Frum writes in the @theatlantic.bsky.socialwww.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...
You’re privileged to have the right to change the outcome, vote, advocate, not just complain and observe. Debates may have become garbage reality television, but get off your couch and actually do something except text your friends “we’re fucked.”
One of the things people in this country often unfortunately forget is that democracy only works because of participation. It is not just a passive given. As an immigrant, I feel compelled to remind my peers - this stuff just doesn’t work without you.
