Why the hell did we as a species look upon the splendour of our world - the snowcapped mountains, the expanse of the oceans, the glistening dew on the fields, the bountiful forests and beauty of the animal kingdom - and think "I know, let's invent financial derivatives"?

I wonder much of the time how dumb our ancestors (and indeed present day leaders) must’ve been to see how beautiful our wild and natural places are, and to know how frickin important they are to essential earth functioning and human food / air / water and just went… nah less of that. Much less
