But anyway the Bible has nothing to do with Rosh Hashanah! Eating apples with honey is a late medieval/early modern practice, not based specifically in any Torah verses. Still fun though!
Yes! The Hebrew דבש (dvash) can refer to any sweet substance of that extra thick consistency. Usually, if you see "honey" sans modifiers, the text refers to bee honey, but not always.
The answer to Piglet's question, btw, is simply that the rabbis thought bees found honey, not produce it from their own body. Thank G-d!
I'm not sure the statement is entirely accurate. When I was in IL, the Jerusalem radical group was involved in several international direct actions. However, it's been tough to work alongside the hostages' family organizations, where there was a lot of anger against signs like the one in the photo
Right, me too. I do think that at this point, it's on the Zionists, especially those working on the ground in Palestine/Israel, to find the terminology that is committed to and that communicates a harmonious approach to human rights and Zionism. Not an easy task let me tell you!
It's a "what is your theory of change" thing. Are you setting up a big tent to include all Zionists so you can change minds, or are you setting up a (bigger) tent against the occupation, and Zionists are welcome to join if they're willing to engage? Both strategies are effective
And all the big zionist parties, from the right wing to the liberal Zionist "left," are too afraid to fight the fight toward acknowledging the humanity of all people between the river to the sea. So we are just stuck in a battle between different shades of Jewish supremacy. "No partner" indeed
People I know in Israel say that they are too afraid even to consider the possibility of a Palestinian state. When pushed enough, they admit that they prefer the current reality that includes these waves of state violence and war crimes against Palestinians. They don't hear how genocidal they sound
