Like if I was a company I wouldn’t want to pay huge amounts of money for my stuff to be pushed to people in a way that pisses them off but I think it also speaks to a larger issue that ad consumption doesn’t work like this anymore. We only trust social media posts from some person now.
People want to feel like they made a decision or learned about something from a person who made an informed decision. As we continue to struggle with agency in a society that changes so quickly right now having shit pushed to us both absent of interest or predicted by algorithms often frustrates us.
Everything feels like a scam now.
In the early 2010s I listened to a bunch of podcasts, wore Warby Parker glasses, shaved with Harry's razors, slept of a Casper mattress and built a website using Squarespace. I am not immune to propaganda, but the host ad reads got to me in a way that the dynamic ad insertion bullshit doesn't.
