Reading comprehension might not be dead, but it’s on life support. People look at a collection of words, get the vibes, and proceed on that basis.
Titles...so many are stopping after just reading titles.
agreed! I've seen it when people share poetry. I try to encourage people to really engage with work, but it is tough to get more than a "that's really good"
Didn’t read this but I liked the vibes
Words have flow and link us to those who haunt our past so we can let those ghosts go....
I always chocked that up to my ADD- I've struggled with reading fluency with my childhood, which is why I'm only just getting to Lord of the Rings right now. But I imagine in the age of Social Media and Tik Tok it's getting more and more common. Either way, I like getting second opinions on books.
This is literally something that (in part) drove me to quit a lucrative job I enjoyed. My manager, while doing exactly this, put in my yearly review that I needed to improve my communication skills. HR listened but said I needed to stay under her to provide feedback so she'd improve. I declined.
True, people just read the title only and came up with conclusion despite not reading the full story
I agree. People remember how you make them feel, and they often forget everything else. That's why first impressions are important. If you make someone feel strongly in a positive way, right from the start. You're golden.
Might be bias here (dyslexic), but I don’t think it’s a problem until people make it one. Like if ye want to read vibes go for it, but don’t force others to think what ye think happened did. Plus at least it’s getting people to read- which is also good. 💝
