I've been committed to living w/o cars all my life, and this close.city?x=-122.33&y=... map is a great tool to ID where you can live as a pedestrian. I finally settled in West Philly this past year, with no regrets. It should be feasible for more folks to access groceries & essentials on foot.

This "they can control the weather" shit is about eco-fascism. It's about positioning climate catastrophes as white genocide. Doesn't matter that BIPOC folks are more heavily impacted by climate chaos. The consequences of fossil fuels can be depicted as anti-white atrocities.

Sad story about the mowing. Re: 311, I can’t stop thinking about the NYPD officer who retaliated against someone for reporting illegally parked cop cars. He’s getting some consequences, but that kind of abuse of power should cost him his job (& hence power.) nyc.streetsblog.org/2024/10/01/c...

A cop made crank calls with "heavy breathing" and, oddly, "dolphin, seal and sheep noises" to harass a 311 complainant. He's been punished.

"Emails between fossil fuel lobbyists and lawmakers in UT, WV, ID and OH suggest a nationwide strategy to deter people...from peacefully disrupting the expansion of fossil fuel infrastructure by enacting tough laws with lengthy jail sentences."

My nieces east of Atlanta have missed school all week, and my 83-year-old mother hasn’t been able to leave the house, open a window or run the air conditioner since Saturday PM — but at least the company that set its chlorine ablaze can deliver increasing returns to its private-equity shareholders.

Private equity barons just pocketed as much as $850 million from the company behind this week’s massive chemical blast in Georgia.

I moved to PA in 2021 after a lifetime in blue states or abroad. Registered independent tho I vote Dem with rare downballot 3rd party exceptions. The anxiety is real: the volume of calls, texts, mail and door knocks has been overwhelming. It’s a nail biter, and we deserve a more democratic system.

This thread has answers to the questions it asks, if you keep reading. They are the answers I'd give too, with the possible addition that you may want to also practice periodically finding steadiness & stillness within the swirl of efforts, needs & energies, so you don't blow out your nerve endings.

"It’s our duty to show up for our communities in every way possible, because when we do not show up, that void is taken by police." What a beautiful, uplifting testimonial: inthesetimes.com/article/naba...
