Deeply grateful to have gotten the chance to do so much of this work in collaboration with YOU, @hayleybrooks.bsky.social!

It’s official! It’s been a journey, but by the confluence of lots of luck, late nights, great collaborators, & an endlessly supportive professional and personal community… I received tenure! I'll be processing this surreal feeling for a long time - but some celebrations are in order for now!

A letter from the Provost of the University of Denver that says:

Dear Professor Sokol-Hessner:

It is my privilege to inform you that, upon the appropriate recommendations, the Board of Trustees of the University of Denver has approved your promotion to the rank of Associate Professor with Tenure in the Department of Psychology, effective September 1, 2024.

Thrilled to be in a great symposium "Affect Shapes Economic Decision-Making" today with Karolina Lempert, Candace Raio, and Joey Heffner. If you're at #AffectScience2024, come by Salon 9 now!

I think there are topics (incl. risky decision-making, my home turf, but many other kinds of cognition) where we ignored context to the detriment of our understanding.I think there are topics (incl. risky decision-making, my home turf, but many other kinds of cognition) where we ignored context to the detriment of our understanding.

During a debate on how brain decoding can (not?) help us understand the structure of emotion at #AffectScience2024, Phil Kragel argues that if we want to understand the structure of emotion, ignoring context might be helpful. Not sure I agree. Esp. with emotion, context might be *the point*.

At #AffectScience2024@ajaysatpute.bsky.social's conference-opening talk on how our assumptions about the structure of emotions can interfere with our ability to study the structure of the same. The threat of circularity is big.

💫 That's a wrap! 💫 Statement feedback has been returned to applicants! Check spam/junk folders and email applicant-support@asfp.io if you didn't get an email but believe you should have.
