CW transphobic violence and murder I don't think trans people are ever going to have our Matthew Shepherd moment, because I don't think the vast majority of people attribute enough humanity to us to ever be moved by our deaths.

This was a tragedy and I am sicked by the loss of a bright and beautiful light
There's that and also they don't care about misogyny. That comes into play with afab people "not doing it right" and amab people "choosing" to be women. Punishment to enforce societal standards is the point.
If anything they’re quite gleeful about our deaths.
I don't think queer people, broadly, had any moments where our pain was recognized by cishet culture. Brandon Teena, a trans man, was raped and murdered 5 years before Shepherd. They use our pain to sell shit. That's it. Let alone how many black trans women are forgotten until TDOR, if at all.
It's legitimately terrifying. I will admit that when I was younger, I had transphobic tendencies. I was lucky enough to have a friend that helped to educate me. Even at my worst though, I couldn't imagine wanting to harass children or hurt another person. I just don't understand that kind of hate.
We've had several Matthew Shepherd moments at this point. They just don't care.
