The map says “coming soon” for the other radio telescope areas too. I wouldn’t trust that. Green Bank, WV is in the National Radio Quiet Zone.

I think there may be research reasons for that gap in coverage? Other gaps on their map include the Very Large Array and Green Bank telescopes.

I'm not sure you can build for catastrophic floods like you can w/ wind damage. Building in mountain valleys will be increasingly risky as tropical storms carry more moisture that's dumped at elevation. On a certain level, the US is lucky not to have high mountains in hurricane areas (except HI).

Insurance rates will likely play a role. I was in the Smokey's in 2021 when many of the same areas of Western NC that are currently devastated were hit hard by Tropical Storm Fred. If you want to see worldwide rainfall records, look to mountains impacted by tropical storms.

Recommend reading up on Camille in Nelson County, VA. Unfortunately, there's a history of tropical storms dumping incredible amounts of rain in the Appalachians.

The electric part is not trivial. That’s a lot of ~$1 million buses and you’d need a wide network of ultra fast chargers, which isn’t something anyone has developed yet here. Your normal DC fast charger you might find along the highway would take many hours to recharge a large bus battery.

That figure is not that interesting though. Households don’t use much water in the grand scheme of things, and they’re resorting to Rhode Island of all places to try and message that the water use is excessive.
