It is really lovely to read the personal remembrances of Jameson. He was a genius but he was also a Marxist mensch in a world that needs more Marxist mensches.

This made me think of American academic Morris Zapf in David Lodge’s Changing Places and his attempt to say everything there was to say about every Jane Austen novel. Seems like a DH plan to me.

The most depressing thing about University Ranking Days is that it ignores the fundamental truth about UKHE: Every department in every university is full of outstanding and original scholars. Every. Single. One. What distinguishes between them are the systemic inequalities in which they work.

We wanted to watch a Cary Grant movie that neither of us had seen and chanced onto The Talk of the Town which was a cracking bromance between Ronald Colman, Cary Grant, and the American legal system with a Supreme Court finale and a fab Sedgwickian performance from Jean Arthur. Six thumbs up!

Amy Rigby’s new album Hang in There with Me is a cracker. Just giving my usual plug for this criminally under-listened-to artist. Bonus: husband Wreckless Eric in the band! www.amyrigby.com
