Whenever I tell my conservative family members this is how the guy talks and this is what he says he wants to do, they think *I'm the one being crazy* because they are not seeing much of this in the news.
A crazy guy screaming on the street can mostly be ignored. A crazy guy who is President of the United States of America with all the powers that entails is actually fairly newsworthy.
The crazy thing is this was all over a bullshit sports story because he & I don't talk about politics. But maybe this shook him up a little bit about all the bullshit information he consumes. Small steps. /F
He was surprised that I couldn't immediately find the bullshit when I went to YouTube, so I got to explain a little bit about the watch algorithm that puts more bullshit in his life (because he already watches a lot of bullshit). 2
I don't think I realized the true power of incumbency until I saw judicial retention election returns in Cook County.
Conventional wisdom growing up in the South is that when given a chance, most voters would "throw the (incumbent) bums out." But here in Chicago, judges are "retained" at a shocking rate. (3/3)
The fascinating part of Chicago judicial elections is the "retain" vote, where folks get to decide if an incumbent can stay in office. Simple yes or no vote. (2/3)
And I'll never forget how conservatives deflected from their own rank Katrina conspiracy theories by pathologizing New Orleanians who thought the levees were bombed, which turned out to be a fear based in actual history.
The bullshit was pretty strong after Katrina and was parroted across big news organizations and right wing hate radio alike. It took years of activism from locals to even scratch the narrative.
Something about the jet stream sinking south creating more wind shear.
