I scored 27/49 on the ACX AI Art Turing Test: www.astralcodexten.com/p/ai-art-tur... I'm not surprised at all that I was somewhere near chance.
Expectedly good video from 3blue1brown explaining how he does his animations. Unexpected was the section at 28:52 on module scoping issues, a workaround of a python "bug" that caused us a lot of pain at work for our software. www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbu7...
LessWrong commenters disagree with Amodei's essay: "For instance, if you can quickly multiply energy production by a factor of 1e15"
Marcus's focus is so strange to me. On the chess: a year ago I lost 8-2 in a blitz match against gpt-3.5-turbo-instruct. It could play and defend against two-move tactics in completely novel positions. The reaction should be astonishment, not dismissal because it occasionally makes an illegal move.
I liked the results of the ACX book review contest this year; evidence in favour of approval voting? The top three were all in my five votes. www.astralcodexten.com/p/book-revie...
Swapping pointers; nothing makes me feel more like a real programmer.
Not really happy about one of the winners being younger than me though.
